Pinch, Press, Pull, Play: Fun Activities for Fine Motor Skill Development
The development of fine motor skills is an ever increasing topic of conversation in the early childhood field. Alarming studies are showing that a growing percentage of children entering Kindergarten are developmentally behind in fine motor functions and find it difficult to write with a pencil or cut with scissors, among other skills. By introducing daily activities that hone not only the small muscles of the fingers, but also larger groups of muscles needed for stability, early childhood teachers and child care providers can help children develop the skills needed as they progress to elementary school. In addition to a teacher or provider's responsibility to help the child, they must also help to educate the child's parents for continuity at home. In this workshop information will be provided on how to share resources and tools with parents.
