The Child Care Providers Coalition of Kansas is excited to announce the following Regional Professional Development training events.  All events offer KDHE approved training hours and are open to any licensed provider or child care center teachers, and CCPC is proud to offer a discounted rate to CCPC members of only $5!

Beauty in the Lives of Children
In this course learners will explore the importance of beauty in the lives of young children. Participants will explore the importance of beauty through brainstorming activities, strategizing design elements, and analyzing physical arrangements of learning environments. Participants will complete a “before” and “after” sketch of their classroom area to share using the five design elements. The role of beauty in human lives as described by Abraham Maslow, Howard Gardner and Ruth Bendler is addressed. Aspects of the Reggio Emilio approach is presented as an example of an early childhood program that focuses on beauty in the environment.


Building Environments

By the end of this training, Learners will be able to:

• Identify components of a classroom that can confine children’s bodies, minds, and souls.

• Apply confinement-busting strategies to create classrooms responsive to how children learn.

• Utilize the HOMES Scale for identifying and implementing active learning.

Children and their Behavior, presented by Beth Reeder

Description of Session:  Does it ever feel like the students are out to get you?  Are they holding private meetings after their preschool session and plotting ways to get at you?  They are not out to get you, but what are their behaviors telling us?  Upon completion of this workshop, the learner will be able to: provider behavior strategies for children in their care, create a more positive environment for learning through playing, and use language to increase children's appropriate behaviors.

Tips and Tools to Market Your Child Care Business, presented by Sarah Goertz

Description of Session:  This presentation will provide participants with the tools they need to create a marketing strategy, determine a budget and execute a marketing plan that will help increase enrollments and build trust with families before they even walk through the front door.

Illumination Exploration, presented by Terria Ashby

Description of Session:  Participants will gain an understanding of benefits of light exploration and how to incorporate it into their own environments using various illumination mediums and accessories.  Providers will have the skills and confidence to facilitate open-ended discoveries and promote growth in various areas of development.  These skills in turn, will enhance the environment and curriculum of their programs.

Navigating Child Care Provider Burnout, presented by Carrie Griffin

Description of Session:  A career in family child care presents a unique set of challenges and stressors.  This workshop will help clearly identify the areas in a provider's life that are most stressful and offer real life solutions for each problem.  By fixing the root cause of stress rather than simply telling providers to mask the symptoms of burnout, the children in care will benefit from a happier, mentally healthier provider.
